Tip 94: Lower the pitch of your voice
The pitch of your voice increases and decreases in natural conversation. Without even thinking about it, we use this change in pitch to emphasise certain points, and to deemphasise others. This helps the person we are talking with better understand what we are saying.
However, many speakers, especially when they are nervous or are reading a pre-prepared script, speak in a monotonous drone which is very annoying for your audience to listen to. It is so unnatural to listen to that it actually makes it harder for your audience to understand what you are saying as the natural cues suggested by the pitch of your voice are completely lost.
Further, if you continue in a monotonous voice for any length of time, your audience will find it harder to pay attention to you and stay awake!
Use some of the passion that you have for your subject to inject some feeling and natural emotion into your presentation. Keep the tone of your voice conversational. Think about the last chat you had with your best friend and talk just like that. Imagine having a conversation with each member of your audience.
