Tip 7: Find out what technology is available
Well in advance of your event, talk with the person who is responsible for providing the technology for your presentation, whether it is a 35mm slide projector, overhead projector or a computer and projector combination.
This person may be the event organiser, or in large purpose-built venues such as conference centres there may be a team of technical support staff who are responsible for managing these facilities.
You should also find out which (1) operating system version and (2) presentation software version is running on the machine you will be using. If you have to save your presentation slide set down to an older software version you must check the slides before your presentation because slide formatting, transition and animation settings can be rendered differently between different versions of the same software product.
Remember that older computers may have CD readers only and may not be able to read your slide files at all if you burnt the slide set onto DVD from your more modern computer. If you have a laptop computer, give consideration to the option of taking it with you and running your slides from your own laptop. If you decide to do this, you should nonetheless have contingency plans in case of computer failure.
