Tip 208: Have a soft drink before you start
A dry mouth is a very common feature of the anxiety response that many people experience when they have to speak in public. When your mouth is dry, it makes it difficult for the tongue and lips to move properly when you speak. As a result you struggle to get the words out properly!
You can overcome this by taking small sips of water very frequently while you are waiting to be called to give your presentation. Don’t drink so much that you need to visit the toilet every few minutes, but just enough to keep your mouth, tongue and lips wet. Make sure you swill the drink in your mouth for maximum effect.
Plain water is possibly the best drink for this purpose as it is usually readily available and won’t damage your teeth when you swill it inside your mouth!
