Tip 216: Release excess energy
Stress and nerves gear your body up for exercise. So exercise your body to control your stress and release the excess energy.
Arrive early at the venue and take a brisk walk for at least five minutes. If it is raining or snowing outside, you can still walk up and down the stairs.
For trembling hands, place your hands on the side of your chair, and count to ten as you try to lift the seat. Imagine yourself channelling all your energy into your hands, and then imagine all that energy flowing out of your hands into the chair like electricity being conducted away from you. This is an exercise you can do without anyone noticing you doing it.
Stand on one leg and shake the other. Now, switch sides. You want your energy to go through the floor and out of your head. Shake your hands...fast. Hold them above your head, bending at the wrist and elbow and then bring your hands back down.
Eat something that is rich in carbohydrates before the presentation. Something like a sandwich or some chocolate. Not only will it make you feel better but it will divert some of your excess energy to your stomach and intestines.
Simple exercises such as shrugging the shoulders or tensing and releasing your body are also helpful. Listening to music helps relieve pressure. Do whatever it takes to release some of the energy that accompanies anxiety.
