Tip 39: Memorise your opening gambit
One technique that can really help to calm your nerves before a presentation is to memorise the first 3-5 sentences of your presentation. Practicing the opening of your presentation over and over again is really effective in helping to avoid the "opening jitters".
When you are travelling to the event venue, keep saying the first few minutes of your presentation over and over again. It doesn’t always have to be 100% perfect, but when you say it for real at the start of your presentation, you will know that you have spoken those opening sentences a hundred times in the past. This can be a tremendous confidence boost.
The opening is the only part of the presentation that you should memorise or write a script for.
