Tip 49: Use quotations
Have you ever found yourself making a bold statement in your presentation, and then looking around your audience and getting the sinking feeling when you realise that they don’t really believe what you are trying to say...? I’ve been there.
If what you are saying goes contrary to your audience’s experience, beliefs or expectations, they have a simple choice – either they can take your statement at face value or they can simply refuse to believe you.
One useful technique for such situations is to use a quotation that backs up your statement, made by someone who your audience knows and can relate to and believe in.
When you use a quotation, you suddenly and unexpectedly give your audience a third and viable option – to believe someone who they trust (other than you!). Using a quotation can make your point more credible in an instant.
Apart from industry-specific quotations, you should aim to build a collection of generic quotations that you can use in a variety of situations. The following websites are a useful starting point for your collection:

Alternatively, simply use your favourite internet search engine with a search query such as "quotes about economics"
