Tip 40: Start by showing your credentials
When you introduce yourself to your audience, you should build your credibility very early on. You must prove to them that you understand who they are, the key issues that they face, that you have done a staggering amount of homework, and that what you are about to tell them will be of interest, importance and relevance to them.
You must prove to your audience that you are qualified to speak about this topic.
If you can do this, you will have secured their attention for the rest of the presentation.
