Tip 237: Acknowledge the chairperson
If a chairperson is present, it is a courtesy to begin your presentation by thanking the chairperson for introducing you and inviting you to speak. The chairperson is also the person who will keep an eye on whether you are obeying your time allocation. It is the chairperson’s responsibility to make sure you have all the facilities you need to perform at your best, so if there is anything you require, raise this with the chairperson.
Conversely, do not make the chairperson the focus of your talk. Do not refer to the chairperson constantly at the expense of the audience, or suck up to him/her. The chairperson is only a facilitator.
