Tip 71: Use a whiteboard, blackboard or flip chart
If you have access to a whiteboard & dry marker or blackboard & chalk or flip chart & marker pen, you can use these to engage your audience in your presentation. These are useful tools to openly note down and interact with contributions from the audience.
A word of caution though - it does require some practice to be able to write legibly on a vertical surface, and you must master the skill beforehand!
Also, you should make sure your writing is neat and legible. It needs to be large enough to be read from the back of the room otherwise you will be excluding a number of people who simply cannot read it from the distance. Do carry a spare whiteboard pen or chalk or marker pen in case you run out.
The advantage of using a whiteboard or blackboard is that you can easily modify the text or diagrams during the course of the session. The advantage of a flip chart is that you can go back to something that was written earlier on.
Be careful not to use any of these media as your scribbling pad during the course of the discussion, or your audience may become confused! suggestions.
