Tip 16: Be a leader
When you stand up in front of an audience and talk with them, you are in a position of leadership for the duration of your presentation. Even if your presentation is interactive and includes audience participation, fundamentally, you are still giving something of your self to your audience.
It is your role to lead your audience from an initial state of not knowing what you are going to say, to an ultimate state of having the knowledge or ideas or concepts that you have chosen to give them.
You may be apprehensive about assuming a leadership role over your audience, but to deliver an effective presentation, you will need to suppress your anxieties for the duration of the presentation and focus on the task of leadership.
You should take confidence from the fact that your audience has willingly given its authority and approval to your 30 minutes or 60 minutes of leadership. If your audience did not consent to your assuming a leadership role over them, they would not spend that time listening to you.
