Tip 37: Start with a question
It is sometimes useful to start with a question that your audience would not be able to answer. You can then tell them that in the next 30 minutes time you will reveal the answer to the question. This is a powerful way of grabbing your audience’s attention and motivating them to engage with you and your presentation.
Clearly, this is a more powerful technique if you link the question with the objectives of the session.
At the end of the session, ask the same question again and see if they can answer it. If you have done a good presentation, it is immensely rewarding both for you and your audience to be able to answer the question this time round. It is a practical illustration that the objectives for the session have been met.
