Tip 198: Optimise the environment
Taking charge of the environment is part of your job as a speaker. It may sometimes be possible to optimise the venue to suit the style and format of your presentation, and to make sure the environment is conducive for a productive interaction between you and your audience.
Check that the heating, lighting, ventilation and equipment are satisfactory. Your audience will fall asleep if the room is too warm and stuffy. They will not be able to concentrate if the room is too cold. A dark room makes eye contact difficult. If the slide projector is not working, you need to arrange for a repair or replacement in good time!
