Tip 44: Define roles
You will have decided a long time ago what roles you and the members of your audience will play in your presentation (see "Tip 31: Decide the best level of audience participation", page 26). For example, you would have decided whether your audience would be active or passive, or whether you are expecting to ask them questions or give them tasks to perform.
You should use the beginning to openly define the roles of presenter and audience, so that your audience knows from the outset what is expected of them. You can do this with simple statement and body language. Also, the layout of the room and seating pattern would have already told them about the expected participation levels.
