Tip 186: Pay attention to your time allocation
When you design your presentation, you must plan its length in accordance with the time allocation you have been given. In fact, you should aim to finish your presentation a few minutes short of your time allocation.
If your presentation is a lot shorter than what was asked of you, the event organiser or session chairperson will have to find a way of filling in the gap that you have created in the programme. If you run over your time allocation you risk alienating your audience, the person who has asked you to speak, or those who will be speaking after you.
In a conference situation it is better to be a little short than to be cut off by the bell. Make your points short and snappy: nothing kills a good conference presentation like rambling.
