Tip 239: Move away from the podium
Get closer to your audience by moving away from, or at least, in front of the podium.
Walk towards your audience. Walk in front of the screen, walk in the isles, walk down the sides, vary your standing position. This allows you to look directly at the majority of your audience, since most people sit in the back of the room.
Moving around the room allows you to maintain eye contact with every part of the audience. It gives the impression that each member of your audience is being addressed.
The most important time you need to see the screen is when you change slides. If you time it right, by walking back toward the front of the room you can see the entire slide without appearing as you needed to.
If you can’t walk toward your audience, then at least lean in towards them. Move meaningfully with each point you make.
